Installing your BestTread™
Installing BestTread™ is a simple and efficient process, designed to fit seamlessly over existing stairs for a professional, polished look. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you install your treads:
Prepare your stairs
Clean the Stairs: Ensure the surface of your existing stairs is clean and free of debris, dust, or loose material. A clean surface is essential for proper adhesive bonding.
Measure the BestTread™
- Accurate Measurement: Measure the width and depth of your existing stair to ensure a precise fit. Remember to include the overhang of the nose tread in your measurements for a snug fit.
- Cut the Tread to Size: Using a fine-toothed saw or power saw, carefully cut the BestTread™ to the appropriate length and depth, based on your measurements.
Apply Adhesive
- Adhesive Application: Apply a high-quality, polyurethane construction adhesive to the back of the BestTread™. Be sure to apply evenly, particularly around the edges and corners in a serpentine pattern as well as in the nose.
- Additional Fastening (Optional): If additional security is desired, use finishing nails where the tread meets the riser to further secure the tread to the existing stair.
Install the Tread
- Position the Tread: Align the tread carefully with the stair riser and the existing step. The edge of the nosing of the tread should overhang slightly, providing a seamless transition.
- Press Firmly: Press the tread down firmly to ensure the adhesive bonds securely. Apply even pressure across the tread to avoid gaps or uneven areas.
Finishing Touches
- Secure with Nails (Optional): If using nails, place them at the back of the tread near the riser and along the sides for a secure fit. Use coordinating colored wood filler or silicone to conceal nail holes, if needed.
- Allow to Set: Allow the adhesive to set according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This will ensure the treads are securely bonded and ready for regular use.
- Clean the Surface: Once the treads are in place, wipe away any excess adhesive or dust to leave the surface clean and polished.
